TROPICAL DEPRESSION PHOTO

Tropical depression

This is a visible satellite photo of a typical tropical depression just off the west coast of Africa. Tropical depressions are not named per se, they are numbered (#1, #2 etc.). A tropical depression has winds of 25 mph to 38 mph. The defining feature of a tropical depression is the fact that it now has a closed off circulation and can be detected by satellite, radar and reconnaisance aircraft. The next stage is a tropical storm.
